Despite extensive research, scientists remain uncertain about the exact nature of Lake Pabos. Was it a single massive lake, a network of lakes, or a sprawling wetland? The prevailing hypothesis suggests it was a mega wetland with diverse aquatic and terrestrial habitats. At its peak, Lake Pabos was larger than modern-day Japan, with depths reaching up to 50 meters (150 feet) in some areas—an environment teeming with life, some of which was decidedly unfriendly to humans and even more formidable than today’s seas.
