Discovered in the late 19th century, its skull alone measured 4.7 feet (1.5 meters), and estimates of its full body length range from 9 to over 50 feet (3 to 15 meters), with some theories positing weights exceeding 12 tons—heavier than a modern whale. Its unparalleled size, combined with a bite force around 69,000 Newtons—comparable to a cargo truck—made it an apex predator capable of crushing large prey.
