Part 12/16:
Small to medium-sized predators and herbivores coexisted within this chaotic environment. Ground sloths like Uramacquia roamed the terrain, weighing up to four tons and resembling giants more than the sluggish, tree-dwelling sloths of today. Their diversity was staggering, with at least ten genera, some comparable in size to large elephants or bison. Equally abundant were giant rodents such as the Fobamis, rivaling polar bears in size—a testament to the basin’s extraordinary ecosystem.
