This tectonic uplift not only drained Lake Pabos but also redirected the course of the Amazon River itself, diverting its flow from what would become the Pacific Ocean to its current path toward the Atlantic. These geological upheavals culminated in the collapse of the mega wetland, leading to the extinction of many species, including the giants that had once thrived there.
