Unlike the current soft cap, a salary floor would mandate that all teams spend a minimum amount on player salaries, ensuring that small-market teams are incentivized or required to invest more competitively.
In the NHL, for example, there exists a hard salary cap and a mandated salary floor, with the gap between them narrowing over time. Applying such a system to MLB could foster increased parity, prevent teams from intentionally under-spending, and maintain competitive integrity.
