Since the publication of A Dance with Dragons in 2011, fans have endured over 5,200 days of silence—equivalent to years of calendar time filled with three Winter Olympics, four summer Olympics, multiple U.S. presidential elections, and significant world events like the coronation of a new king of England. During this period, Martin has pivoted to numerous other projects, including four historical books within The World of Ice and Fire, co-creating the HBO prequel House of the Dragon, and working on spin-offs and adaptations like the video game Elden Ring.
