Vance’s discovery of John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band came serendipitously. Although he initially thought their raw, energetic sound was somewhat amateurish when he heard their demo, Vance recognized their potential. He remembered seeing them live in Rhode Island, where they had been playing since the early 70s, and they bore striking similarities to Springsteen’s sound—both in style and regional authenticity.
