The Westside Community: A Heartfelt Childhood
Separated from the rest of Tulsa by the Arkansas River, Red Fork's residents were affectionately known as "Westsiders." Although the area lacked wealth, it was characterized by a strong sense of community where everyone knew each other. With a small-town feel, Red Fork boasted several schools—a middle school and a high school—and community amenities such as a community center and a swimming pool.
The 1970s were a vibrant time to grow up in Red Fork. Children would ride bikes along familiar streets, explore tunnels under the city, and enjoy the simple pleasures of neighborhood life. Route 66, the famed historic highway, ran right through the area, adding to its nostalgic charm.
