Setting Up on the Property: Building Infrastructure and a Dog Yard
The first major task was establishing basic infrastructure for living. The narrator installed a power pole and a temporary service panel, rerouting electrical wiring from an existing service point. They chose a sloped spot on the land, situated conveniently near the septic tank, making waste management simpler.
A 75x150-foot fence was erected to create a secure dog yard, accommodating five dogs, with plans to honor their memory in a more permanent cemetery. The narrator ensured that the dogs could stay close, often sleeping inside the camper at night—a source of comfort and companionship throughout the years.
