Post-cutting, the edges required smoothing, which was accomplished with an abrasive cloth. The homeowner then measured and cut a top shelf piece to attach over the split, serving both as a design feature and a potential platform for small items or just aesthetic appeal. Care was taken to ensure there was sufficient clearance, allowing the door to swing freely without binding.
In adjusting the fit, approximately 7/8 of an inch was trimmed from one side to create space for the top piece and to prevent tightness that could impede door operation. The additional support piece was screwed into place, creating a sturdy top for the bottom half of the door.
