James Dalma states that the operational environment of Tesla’s self-driving AI is still somewhat poorly understood but has very little chance—less than 1%—of outright failure. Tesla’s progress suggests they are “closer than ever,” with scale playing an essential role.
Current hardware upgrades strengthen this outlook. Tesla’s recent deployment of a cluster of 10,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs has boosted compute capacity by over three times, aiming for a sevenfold increase by year's end. This computational power is critical for training the neural networks on the massive datasets required to achieve Level 4 autonomy.
