While Tesla has been working on autonomous driving for over 15 years, legacy automakers have lagged behind, often due to hesitancy or lack of focus. They face a narrow window to catch up: they must license Tesla’s FSD technology now to harness its benefits before Tesla further consolidates its dominant position.
Tesla's recent move toward licensing hardware and software is akin to what happened with its Supercharger network, where multiple companies now collaborate to access Tesla's charging ports. Similarly, once Tesla begins shipping hardware to other automakers' vehicles, a swift cascade of licensing agreements is anticipated.
