The device houses several ultra-fine, flexible threads—each thinner than a human hair—that are precisely inserted into the brain using a robotic surgical system developed in-house. These wires record and stimulate electrical signals from neurons, capturing the brain’s language of electrical impulses.
Musk emphasized that the brain operates using electrical signals, which makes interfacing with it via electrodes feasible. The implant communicates wirelessly via Bluetooth, recharged inductively on a pad similar to a smartwatch charger. The innovative design minimizes tissue damage and immune response due to the tiny size and biocompatible materials used.
