The town’s layout features a unique barrier—an ugly, albeit ineffective, structure designed to prevent semi-trucks from entering certain streets. Additionally, Walden operates with a slow-paced, relaxed vibe, where people like an older resident, who is often seen walking around town, embody the community’s laid-back spirit.
Local Heritage and Future Outlook
Throughout the tour, I shared glimpses of historical buildings and landmarks, from banks established in the early 20th century to old service stations and the Rock Cafe, a local favorite for buffet-style meals. The community is rich in history, with architecture dating back to the 1800s, reflecting its longstanding presence as a small but resilient town.
