Throughout this period, Public officials and the press insisted that Antifa was a catchphrase rather than an actual entity. The narrative was that, unlike far-right extremist groups like the Proud Boys or Oath Keepers, Antifa lacked cohesive leadership or a defined group identity. Instead, it was framed as a decentralized uprising, a “moniker” used by various individuals online, scattered across chat rooms, 4chan, Discord, and other internet forums. These discussions centered around tactics and support, but no formal membership or organization called “Antifa” ever existed.
