Despite Tesla’s lead, the autonomous industry remains highly capital-intensive, requiring billions in investment and years of data accumulation. Tesla’s unique advantage is its large fleet of vehicles equipped with multiple cameras, generating vast amounts of real-world driving data—an essential asset for AI training.
Other players, lacking comparable scale and data access, face substantial hurdles in catching up. The likes of Google and GM, although formidable, may not yet match Tesla’s data depth, which is critical for refining autonomous driving algorithms.
