The yard already features its own trail system, which the narrator hopes to keep in good shape. They plan to drill holes in new lick tubs—devices used to provide dogs with minerals—and fill them with mulch to promote healthy consumption and digestion. Nearby, a pile of manure from a neighbor provides organic fertilizer, which will be mixed into pots and compost piles to enrich soil and support garden growth.
Rock Cleanup and Tool Maintenance
A significant portion of the morning is dedicated to scooping up rocks, which are an obstacle for both the dogs and the mowing process. The narrator goes through a collection of shoes—an amusing side note, as dogs obviously don't wear shoes—to prepare for drilling holes into the lick tubs and other gardening implements.
