Adding to the controversy, Tesla, despite planning to open a new battery factory in the U.S., may not receive a full $7,500 credit due to stipulations about sourcing from domestic suppliers. Interestingly, a government draft suggests exceptions might be created for automakers that are investing heavily in U.S.-based manufacturing, even if their batteries currently come from overseas. This could allow Tesla to qualify for full credits despite not yet meeting certain sourcing requirements, which many perceive as a loophole benefitting big corporations at the expense of fair policy enforcement.
