Responsible for creating individualized mixes for each performer, these engineers are akin to mentalists, understanding and anticipating the needs of each musician to deliver precisely what they need.
Their role is vital because each band member focuses on different elements—drummers may concentrate on click tracks and bass, guitarists want to hear themselves, and vocalists need assistance staying on pitch. The monitor engineer must balance all these inputs meticulously.
