Part 7/10:
A Pattern of Misguided Leadership
This tragedy at the Louvre is part of a larger pattern of governance and leadership failure, notably exemplified by the appointment of women to high-security positions. Last year, the Louvre appointed its first female director of security, Dominique Buffin, a 46-year-old with a distinguished career, breaking a centuries-old male monopoly on such roles.
Yet, within a year, the museum's security was compromised so brazenly that millions of dollars worth of jewelry were stolen in broad daylight—with guards allegedly fleeing and police failing to respond promptly. The security head’s gender, celebrated in media as a symbol of progress, seems irrelevant given the systemic issues of oversight, planning, and strategy.
