At the centre of the turmoil is the fragile balance of power. The incumbent Liberal Party holds 14 seats, but that isn't enough to guarantee stability, especially when considering the allegiances of the independents. Out of six crossbench members, four lean to the left—supporting opposition forces—making it challenging for the Liberals to form a sustainable majority. These independents include Christy Johnston, Peter George, Craig Garland, and David O'Burn, all of whom are known for their strong stances on issues such as banning greyhound racing and opposing semen farms. One of them, David O'Burn, has a notable background as a former Labour leader, further complicating the landscape.
