Despite this, Netanyahu’s government insists on achieving a total victory over Hamas, which sparked the current conflict with a deadly attack that resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and the kidnapping of 251 hostages. The Israeli military estimates that it currently controls about 75% of Gaza’s territory, although Hamas continues to hold sway over the 25% populated area. The control of this region by Hamas enables them to divert aid, manipulate supplies, and continue their activities, exacerbating conditions for Gaza’s nearly 2 million residents.
