One notable case involves a journalist who fled Iran in 2013 and now faces direct threats to his life and the safety of his family back home. According to his lawyer, these threats include assassination attempts and pressure on family members, which the lawyer has brought to the attention of local authorities.
The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), led by Director Mike Burgess, has publicly acknowledged Iran’s involvement in such covert operations. Burgess explicitly named Iran as a hostile actor engaging in intimidation and blackmail within Australian borders.
