Legal Implications and Effectiveness of Recognition
Legal experts suggest that Australia’s recognition, much like that of many other countries, would be largely symbolic at the international level. Recognizing Palestine would align Australia with over 140 of the 193 United Nations member states that have already granted recognition. Currently, 147 countries recognize Palestine as a state, and among the G20 nations, only a handful, including the UK, France, and Canada, have taken this step publicly.
