An especially cynical aspect is the argument often trotted out by supporters: that establishing a Palestinian state would eliminate grievances that fuel terrorism. As Ed Husseek mockingly notes, this "logic" suggests terrorists like Hamas act out of frustration, and giving them what they want—statehood—would make them less violent.
This is a dangerous oversimplification. Hamas, which controls Gaza, is designated as a terrorist organization by numerous countries, and its actions—missile attacks, hostage taking, and other forms of violence—have nothing to do with grievances alone. Offering statehood to such a group only risks empowering violence and instability, not resolving underlying issues.
