If sufficient pressure or activity convinces Maduro's inner circle to abandon him, the next phase could involve a transition of power to the opposition. There exists a prominent opposition leader, María Karina Machado, who has historically held legitimacy and support among the Venezuelan opposition community. Despite the regime's efforts to stifle her political participation—most notably prohibiting her from running in the elections—she garnered overwhelming support in an unofficial primary vote outside of the regime's control.
