Part 2/9:
The announcement, made by the Trump administration, indicates that Israel and Hamas have reached a preliminary understanding on the first phase of a broader peace plan. This plan, rooted in a 20-point proposal, was brokered through indirect negotiations facilitated by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States.
The most immediate and tangible component of this agreement concerns the exchange of hostages and prisoners. According to the deal, Hamas is given 72 hours to release all remaining Israeli captives, with estimates suggesting around 20 hostages are still alive and 28 are confirmed dead. In exchange, Israel would free 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences, along with 1,700 others detained during the conflict.
