Operational Challenges and Tactical Innovations
The Ukrainian military is still adept at conducting reconnaissance and precision strikes within the initial 25 kilometers of the front, using drones and other assets. However, the challenge lies in extending this defensive and neutralization capability deeper into Russian-controlled territory—beyond the 25-kilometer frontline, into a zone where Russian forces can maneuver with impunity.
To achieve this, Ukraine must develop and deploy mid-range strike capabilities capable of targeting Russian infiltration forces at 50-70 kilometers deep. Historically, Ukraine used Turkish-made Bayraktar drones and other systems like the GIMLER artillery, but Russian electronic warfare innovations have rendered these less effective.
