Part 2/8:
The scene at dusk features American sailors aboard the support ship USS Frank Cable performing a solemn rendition of "Taps," a traditional tune of remembrance. For many American submariners during World War II, Brisbane was the last friendly port they saw before heading into perilous sea patrols. Historically, seven U.S. submarines undertook their final patrols from Brisbane, with some losing their lives at sea, illustrating the port’s crucial wartime significance.
In total, around 72 submarines made at least one port call in Brisbane, where they received resupply and rearming support. These moments of remembrance resonate today, highlighting the long-standing naval ties and sacrifices made by servicemen and women.
