Todd McClean, New Zealand’s Trade Minister, acknowledged that industries might have previously absorbed or mitigated the impact of a 10% tariff. However, he expressed concern that the new 15% rate would start to significantly affect exporters' competitiveness. "The industry could buffer the 10% tariff because we had the best deal at the time, but the 15% is going to start having a greater effect," McClean stated.
