The narrative of Jane's Addiction is heavily tinged with drug use, particularly heroin and cocaine. After forming Psi Com, Farrell recruited Eric Avery and Chris Brinkman, the latter of whom struggled with substance abuse. Brinkman’s addiction culminated in a heroin overdose in 1997 that claimed his life at just 31.
