Back in May, China agreed—though temporarily—to lower tariffs on American goods from 125% to 10%, while the US reduced tariffs on Chinese products from 145% to 30%. These measures were part of an effort to de-escalate trade tensions and foster dialogue between the two economic powerhouses.
President Trump expressed cautious optimism earlier this week regarding the China trade talks. He highlighted recent positive interactions, stating:
"I just had a phone call from Scott Bessett and had a very good meeting with China and it seems that I...They’re going to brief me tomorrow. We’ll either approve it or not, but he felt very good about the meeting."
