The expenditure on housing illegal migrants is staggering. Currently, around 32,000 asylum seekers are housed in approximately 210 hotels, all funded by British taxpayers. The financial burden is enormous, with the UK spending roughly 108 million pounds per month (about 222 million Australian dollars) in the 2024-2025 financial year. Over the entire year, this sums up to nearly 2.67 billion Australian dollars.
This financial outlay comes at a time when many British families are struggling amid a cost-of-living crisis — soaring energy prices, housing shortages, and economic pressure. Meanwhile, public protests have erupted outside these hotels, reflecting widespread frustration and resentment toward the government’s handling of immigration.
