The current dispute traces back to a proposed pay increase by the Queensland government under Premier Chris Chrysaffly. Last month, the government made an initial offer of a 3% salary rise, coupled with two subsequent years of 2% wage increases. While the offer was presented as a move toward recognizing teachers’ contributions, it failed to gain acceptance from the teaching workforce.
The decision to reject the offer was supported by the majority of educators, with votes from more than 36,000 staff indicating strong disapproval. Teachers argue that the proposed increases do not sufficiently keep pace with inflation or reflect their vital role in shaping future generations.
