Part 5/10:
Back in London, the decision was heavily influenced by internal political pressures. Reports indicated that at least seven cabinet ministers, including key figures like Deputy Prime Minister Angela Raina and Foreign Secretary, are sympathetic to or support the recognition move. This pressure partly stems from a faction within the Labour Party, where MPs like Sarah Champion, chair of the International Development Committee, expressed enthusiasm for recognition, albeit with some reservations.
MPs, including Sarah Champion and others in the party, outlined four key conditions that should accompany recognition:
Ending the suffering and dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Implementation of a ceasefire between Israeli forces and Palestinian groups.
