The incident began when the suspect was seen walking across Rockefeller Square, close to the targeted building. Witnesses saw him wearing a button-down shirt and blazer, carrying an assault-style rifle. He then entered 345 Park Avenue, a skyscraper known for housing influential organizations. As he moved through the building, he reportedly shot at least six people, including an NYPD officer working security, and others on upper floors—possibly more, as reports suggest a higher number of casualties.
