In North Korea, upheaval continues after the botched launch of a new destroyer last week, which ended up on its side, partially submerged and draped in tarps. The vessel, meant to demonstrate Kim Jong-un’s naval modernization efforts, failed spectacularly during a launch ceremony attended by Kim himself. State media reported the detention of four officials, including Ri Hyong Sun, vice director of the munitions industry department, and the chief engineer, citing “criminal negligence” and “carelessness” as causes of the failure.
