Part 6/9:

One of the most ambitious aspects of Sea City is its focus on environmental sustainability. By lining the waterways with mangroves and salt marsh plants, and creating protected nursery habitats, the project seeks to support a vibrant marine ecosystem. Indeed, since the start of construction, the number of marine species in the waterways has skyrocketed from 142 to over 1,000, including fish, shellfish, seagrasses, and corals.

Seawater flows in through wide inlets and tidal gates, ensuring circulation and oxygenation. The use of local sand washing plants to produce pristine beach sand also minimizes environmental impact. Furthermore, marine animals such as dolphins and turtles occasionally venture into the lagoons, highlighting the ecological success of the project thus far.
