Part 2/13:

Julius Sterling Morton was born in 1832 in New York but grew up in Michigan. In 1854, driven by ambition and the allure of the frontier, the then 22-year-old Morton and his wife, Caroline Joy, set out for the newly formed Kansas-Nebraska Territory immediately after their wedding. By April 1855, Morton was editing the Nebraska City News at an annual salary of $1,000, quickly gaining influence as a prominent voice in the frontier’s development.
