Part 9/13:
Jowett’s redesign embraced the Neo-Classical Revival style, characterized by imposing columns, symmetrical facades, and ornate details. The new wing extended the mansion outward in multiple directions, enveloping the original farmhouse within a grander structure. A prominent circular portico entrance became the signature feature, symbolizing Morton’s stature and vision.
The Estate’s Gardens and Surroundings
Surrounding the mansion was an expansive landscape—gardens, flowerbeds, and tree-lined walkways—carefully cultivated to create a scenic estate. The grounds included well-kept lawns, ornamental flower beds, and mature trees that Morton himself had planted, illustrating his lifelong commitment to forestry and beautification.
