Following Moore’s death, his wife Lora sold Loramoor about a year later. The estate’s subsequent history was turbulent, passing through multiple owners over the decades. Large portions of the property changed hands, and many of its auxiliary buildings were adapted for private residences.
Decline and Demolition: Preserving a Legend
By the 1980s, Loramoor’s estate faced decline. In 1984, a controversial decision was made by a developer to demolish the main house, marking the end of the mansion’s physical grandeur. Fortunately, photographs and stories have preserved the estate’s image and legacy, allowing us to appreciate what once was a symbol of American wealth and aspiration on Lake Geneva.
