Inside Fonthill, every inch is a homage to Mercer’s passions. The floors, walls, and ceilings are adorned with handcrafted tiles—some depicting biblical scenes, medieval knights, zodiac signs, exotic animals, and literary characters. Many tiles are imported from Persia, China, Spain, the Netherlands, and the Middle East, meticulously embedded into the walls and floors, creating a vibrant mosaic universe.
The castle’s rooms serve as a narrative museum: the library holds rare books and engravings; corridors display archaeological tools; display cases overflow with prints, paintings, and antiques—transforming the castle into a tangible encyclopedia of Mercer’s collecting and storytelling.
