However, Morgan did not live to see the estate's full decline. He passed away in 1933 at age 78, witnessing the sunset of the Gilded Age. His death marked the end of an era, and the estate’s future quickly became uncertain.
Post-Morgan Years and Transformation
After Morgan’s death, Whitely remained in the family briefly but soon faced upheaval. In 1937, the estate was sold to Randal J. LeBoeuf. The following decades saw dramatic changes: during the 1950s, much of the mansion and central structures were demolished to facilitate residential subdivision. Remarkably, two large wings and a church were preserved and converted into private homes, and much of the original 650 acres was redeveloped, notably into the campus of Whitely School.
