Decline, Fire, and Preservation Efforts
By the 1940s, neglect took its toll. A small fire in 1940 damaged parts of the mansion, exposing its vulnerability. Without regular upkeep, the building fell into disrepair: windows broke, water seeped in, and vandalism became commonplace. Across the decades, demolished parts, stolen fixtures, and graffiti marred its exterior.
