Part 6/11:
At the heart of Cedar Rapids stands the grand residence that symbolizes Douglas’s success: the Bruce Mór estate, located on a prominent hill overlooking the city. Originally built between 1884 and 1886 by Caroline Sinclair under the name “Fairholm,” this mansion boasted 21 rooms, 14 fireplaces, and nearly 15,000 square feet of luxurious living space. During its Victorian heyday, it was hailed as "the most magnificent house west of Chicago," exemplifying the architectural opulence of its time with steep gabled roofs, multiple chimneys, towers, ornate woodwork, and exotic conservatories.
