Their daughter, Mary Kimberly, inherited the estate, hosting charitable events and garden tours to benefit Redlands. Her vision was to preserve the estate as a public legacy, and in 1963, she succeeded in encouraging the city to purchase 39 acres of adjacent land, forever safeguarding the estate's scenic beauty. When Helen Kimberly Crest died in 1979 at age 98, she bequeathed the mansion to the community, entrusting its maintenance to a nonprofit organization.
