In 1960, Irving Lendy, owner of a well-known Brooklyn seafood restaurant, acquired Rynwood, but the estate suffered from neglect and underuse. By the 1970s, it was on the verge of destruction.
Revival and Restoration
Fortunately, in 1979, the Italian-founded winery chain Banfi Vintners bought Rynwood, recognizing its historic and architectural significance. Renaming it Villa Banfi, the company embarked on a comprehensive restoration. Over three years, craftsmen repaired stone masonry, restored woodwork, and revitalized stained glass windows, carefully preserving the original period details.
