In 1927, Ruby and her husband, Charlmers Wood, commissioned the construction of their Long Island estate, dubbed "Little Ipswich." Spanning 43 picturesque acres in Woodbury, the estate was an ambitious project, reflecting her innovative vision in architecture and interior design.
Designed by the renowned firm Dilley & Aldrich, the mansion was a single-story structure, a choice driven by Ruby’s desire for lofty ceilings in every room without the complication of multiple floors. Upon entering, visitors were greeted by a grand central hall beneath a massive dome, setting a tone of grandeur and classical elegance.
