Part 13/14:
Topping our list is the immense Lakshindi Vilas, completed in 1890. It is considered the largest private residence worldwide, with a total land area of about 30 million square feet and a built-up space of roughly 3.3 million square feet. Although often exaggerated in publications, even without embellishments, its size is staggering—about ten times larger than Buckingham Palace or twenty times larger than the Biltmore Estate in the USA. Originally constructed for the Baroda royal family, it features over 170 rooms, including the grand Durbar Hall with Venetian mosaic floors and stained glass windows. The estate includes golf courses, gardens, and several smaller palaces within the property. Although parts of it remain a private residence, sections function as museums, testifying to India’s royal grandeur.
