By the early 20th century, Jennings had established himself as an influential figure. He served as director and later secretary of Standard Oil of New Jersey, one of Rockefellers’ key companies, and was president of the National Fuel Gas Company from 1908 to 1919. Additionally, Jennings was involved in banking, sitting on the board of the Manhattan Bank and serving as secretary of the New York Trust Company, predecessor of today’s Chase Bank. Such roles cemented his status as a titan in oil, finance, and industry during America’s Gilded Age.
